MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has emerged as a valuable tool in enhancing the diagnostic and staging capabilities of rectal cancer evaluation. This advanced imaging technique allows for better visualization of tumor characteristics, including size, depth of invasion, and lymph node involvement. DWI provides additional functional information by measuring the movement of water molecules within tissue, which can help distinguish between benign and malignant tissues, as well as assess treatment response. Integrating DWI into standard MRI protocols has shown promise in improving the precision of rectal cancer staging, guiding treatment planning, and potentially improving patient outcomes.
