This contribution showcases a decision support approach using weathering time series and soil water balances with example data for turf soccer fields in Stuttgart (southwest Germany), as well as in the much drier region around Bernburg (Saale), south of Magdeburg in eastern Germany. The approach relies on minimising the material and irrigiation costs by modifying soil layer design parameters, e.g. the layer height and therefore its water retention capacity.
