Abstract

Natural fibers are one of the good alternative sources for replacing synthetic fiber and reinforcing polymer matrices. Because of their eco-friendly nature. This investigation deals with the extraction and characterization of new natural fibers from the Moroccan mallow plant stem. The physicochemical, thermal, and mechanical properties of Moroccan Mallow Fibers (MMFs) were reported and compared with other natural fibers for the first time. Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction, confirmed that MMFs are rich in cellulose content. Some Moroccan Mallow Fibers were treated with 5% aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution. Our object focused in the evolution of crystallinity index.

Keyphrases: Crystallinity index, FTIR, Lead, Mallow, Rietveld refinement, XRD, XRF
